I have worked with individuals who use wheelchairs for several years as a personal trainer in a medical fitness facility. In that setting, we were equipped with specialized exercise equipment designed to safely accommodate wheelchair users.
One of the primary pieces of adaptive equipment I used was a dual cable cross system. This functional training machine features a wide base, allowing easy wheelchair positioning during exercise. Its independently adjustable arms can be positioned in multiple directions, making it ideal for strengthening various muscle groups. The system also supports range of motion (ROM) exercises and mobility training, providing a safe and effective way to build strength while seated.
Because of its versatility and safety, this equipment made strength training for wheelchair users both feasible and practical. When YOUTRAINFITNESS® Personal Training opened in 2024, we invested in this same type of functional training equipment so we could continue providing accessible, high-quality strength training for people who use wheelchairs.
